The London Rugby League Foundation is currently recruiting for the big fundraising project of the year, the Chamonix Hard Cross Speed Hike Challenge!
We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to take on the challenge of hiking 100km from Courmayeur to to Chamonix to raise funds for the Foundation from 5-9 October 2016. The route takes the hikers round Mont Blanc and follows in the footsteps of the most famous Ultra Trail Marathon Events in the World.
The trek will offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to complete a unique physical challenge, in one of the most awe-inspiring settings in the world, whilst raising money for a great cause. We will be ascending with guides on mountain trails which mean there is no technical mountain experience necessary and we will be hiking all the way to the three summits. We will be climbing Testa Della Tronche in Italy (2,581m, 8500ft), Tete Ronde in Switzerland (2700m, 8,900ft) and finishing with Mont Buet in France at 3,100m (just over 10,000 feet) and this will be the first time a UK team has ever come to take on these three peaks for charity.
Over the three days you will cover c. 60km and ascend a total of c. 4,500m in altitude which from trail head to summit is almost exactly the same as climbing Kilimanjaro, without the lottery of high altitude. The main difference is we will do it in 3 days, not 6!
We only have limited places for the event and all team members are required to contribute £650 to pay for the cost of the trip and raise a minimum of £1500 for the Foundation. The aim of the event is to raise £20,000 to fund the employment of a new community development coach in 2016-17. As such, the funds will go directly to frontline coaching activities, enabling the Foundation to reach more children immediately.
The trip is being managed in partnership with Chamonix Hard Cross (https://chamonixhardcross.com/speed-hiking) who will arrange all transfers, accommodation, food and support. They are based in Chamonix and links with the best guides and refuges on the trail. They have years of experience and have run charity events every year. Here is what some of their previous fundraisers have said about the trip:
"What an amazin experience!!! It's only now that I have had chance to stand back and reflect on the last week, that I realise quite what we all achieved. Thank you for giving me what has undoubtedly been one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life..." S Brooks
" I just wanted to say thank you for what I think was one of the best experiences of my life." J Vickery
